Lost a Lista key? The fix is a new core, and it comes with keys

A replacement lock core is the part that gets you back into the cabinet and keeps you in control of it afterward. Every core on this page ships with its own new keys, swaps in about ten minutes with no special tools, and can be keyed alike to the cabinets you already own. Start with the key code, if you have one

Every Lista key is stamped with its key code; on standard locks it reads YNSX followed by a number. The code lives only on the keys, the lock itself shows no number, so keep one surviving key, or a photo of one, somewhere safe. If you still have one key, you still have a working lock, and a locksmith can duplicate it for a few dollars. Locked cabinet, every key gone?

First, make sure it is actually locked. The most common Lista lockout is a lock bar that bounced when a drawer was slammed, and a thin metal ruler opens it in a minute with no key at all: see how to open a Lista cabinet that locked itself. If it really is locked: With no surviving key there is no code to cut from, because the lock itself carries no number. A local locksmith can open the cabinet without damaging it. The three Lista keying systems

Lista cabinets ship with one of three lock-core configurations, and you can swap cores in the field with the release tool. This page carries replacement cores for all three.

• Random-group keyed. Each lock has a different key from a large keyspace. Use when individual technicians own individual drawers and you want minimal key sharing.
• Keyed-alike. All locks in the group share one key. Use when one technician opens an entire bank of cabinets: fastest workflow, lowest key-management overhead.
• Master-keyed. Each cabinet has its own key, but a single master key opens all of them. Use for tool cribs where individual users have their own cabinet but the crib attendant needs access to everything.

The lock core release tool is the small tool you push into the face of the lock to release the core, used when rekeying cabinets you still have keys for: swapping cores between cabinets or setting up keyed-alike groups while the housings stay put. Rekeying a fleet

Cabinets accumulate, and technicians leave with keys. If your floor has grown into a mix of random keys, we can bring it back under control: convert a bank of cabinets to keyed-alike by swapping cores, or set up a proper master-key system so every cabinet keeps its own key while the crib attendant carries one. Common questions

How do I get a replacement key for a Lista cabinet?

Replace the core. Every Lista replacement lock core ships with new keys, swaps in about ten minutes, and can be keyed alike to the cabinets you already own, so a lost key is fixed for good. We do not sell individual cut keys; if you still have one working key, any commercial locksmith can duplicate it. Where is the key code on a Lista lock?

On the keys, and only on the keys. Standard Lista key codes read YNSX followed by a number, like YNSX25. The lock core itself carries no number, which is why keeping one original key, or even a photo of one, matters so much.

My Lista cabinet is locked and the key is gone. What now?

If any original key still exists, a local locksmith can duplicate it. Which Lista replacement lock core should I order?

Keyed-alike if you want one key to open every cabinet in a group. Master-keyed if each cabinet keeps its own key and one master opens them all, the standard tool crib setup. Random-group if you want each lock on its own key with minimal sharing. If you are matching cabinets you already own, email a photo of an existing key and we will match the keying.

Can all my Lista cabinets share one key?

Yes. That is a keyed-alike system. Existing cabinets convert by swapping in keyed-alike cores, and new cabinets can be factory-keyed to match before they ship.

What is a Lista master key?

In a master-keyed system every cabinet keeps its own individual key, and one master key opens all of them. It is the standard setup for tool cribs. Master-keyed replacement cores on this page ship with their individual keys; the master key itself is part of the master system and is quoted with it.

Do you handle keys and locks for Vidmar cabinets too?
